Bringing Riders Over “The Edge” Through Fiberglass
Challenge:
How to take advantage of the park’s hillside and draw attention from the highway.
Creative Solution:
For its expansion in 2022, Soaky Mountain Waterpark wanted a unique attraction for the area against the hill, but not just in terms of ride experience. The water slide should have an iconic look to it and be instantly recognizable from a distance. To begin with, the park selected a first-of-its-kind competition slide.
The length of two football fields, Soaky Mountain’s Blasterango Battle—two side-by-side Master Blaster + Boomerango Fusions—is situated on the hillside facing the highway.
To capture the beauty of the hills, WhiteWater developed translucent Boomerango walls so that light can shine through the fiberglass. As riders in inner tubes soar up these near-vertical walls, they would feel like they are going over “The Edge”—the name of the ride. In addition, because these walls lend themselves well to artwork, the letters “THE EDGE” and a Smoky Mountain theme decorate the surface through fiberglass veiling for a truly eye-catching attraction to draw visitors from the highway.
As expected after opening, this photogenic and thrilling water slide quickly became a guest-favourite. Learn more about this IAAPA Brass Ring Award-winning water slide here.
