Funtasia Theme Park

Drogheda, Ireland

Mat racing water slide

After almost 20 years in operation as a beloved indoor park in a pay-as-you-go model, Funtasia Theme Park wanted to introduce high-adrenaline experiences Pirates Cove Waterpark to broaden its appeal and boost attendance. Without removing any existing attractions, the facility added three new water slides.

With the floor plan fully built out, Pirates Cove’s expansion depended on thinking vertically. New attractions were threaded across the mezzanine, weaving above and around existing architecture to maximize elevation changes and conserve footprint. This process even required building modifications, including selective roof expansion, to accommodate the new slide geometry and maintain guest sightlines.

The result not only added exciting energy but changed how the building presents itself. The Parallel Pursuit mat racer winds above the AquaPlay structure below. At the same time, a Master Blaster + Constrictor Fusion goes through three walls—out of the indoor water park and into another indoor activities zone—and back, for a total of 154 meters of exhilaration. With exciting blasts and the sound of screams, this water coaster is the perfect way to promote the water park to FEC guests who have not yet gotten their tickets.

A high-thrill High-Speed AquaTube protruding outside the building envelope was added, saving space indoor and serving as a billboard to attract people driving past the park.

Colourful AquaLucent effects for all three attractions round out the new offerings, providing surprising bursts of light in an indoor environment.
