Case Study: Grand Hyatt Dubai Waterpark
| 6 min read
With the opening of its 20,000-square-meter on-site water park, Grand Hyatt Dubai has elevated the city-resort concept, creating a destination within a destination. Designed and supplied by WhiteWater, the water park enhances guest engagement, encourages longer stays, and reinforces the hotel’s appeal for leisure travelers and families seeking a complete resort experience in the heart of the city.
Hotel guests and local residents can enjoy the water park through day passes, allowing the property to seamlessly blend urban exploration with resort-style leisure. Surrounded by lush landscaping and anchored by a wave pool with a sandy beach, the water park feels worlds away from the city, with only the passing monorail hinting at its urban setting.
Grand Hyatt Dubai set out to enhance its luxury positioning while responding to the growing demand for multigenerational, experience-driven travel. As Managing Director & Area Vice President Fathi Khogaly explains, “Our goal has always been to offer more than a stay; we want to create a destination. The addition of the water park enhances our luxury positioning and gives families even more reasons to spend their time with us.”
That vision comes to life through a thoughtfully designed water park that brings together an exciting mix of attractions appealing to thrill seekers, families, and casual loungers alike. By balancing high-energy slides with relaxed aquatic environments and generous space for social interaction and rest, the park delivers a well-rounded experience that complements the resort’s five-star setting.

Designed to deliver high-energy thrills and visual impact, this slide tower anchors the park with some of its most exciting attractions. Featuring Boomerango, the region’s first Parallel Pursuit, AquaTwist, and Freefall Plus, the tower offers a diverse mix of ride experiences that range from competitive racing to dramatic drops. Boomerango builds anticipation with its soaring wall climb and moments of weightlessness, while Parallel Pursuit introduces friendly competition as riders race side by side. AquaTwist adds a racing element, and Freefall Plus delivers an adrenaline-charged plunge for thrill seekers. Together, these attractions create a bold centerpiece that drives excitement, encourages repeat rides, and gives the park a signature skyline presence that guests can spot from across the resort.
One of the park’s two slide towers has a range of intensities that appeal to a broad audience. Featuring AquaTube, Pool Sider, Constrictor, and Giant AquaTube, the tower offers a mix of enclosed and open rides that balance speed, curves, and moments of anticipation. From the spiraling excitement of Constrictor to the shared experience of the Giant AquaTube, these attractions give guests the freedom to choose their level of thrill while maintaining strong throughput and efficient operations. Together, the rides create a dynamic tower that encourages repeat visits, supports high guest capacity, and delivers familiar, crowd-pleasing experiences that remain a cornerstone of any successful resort water park.

Wave pools play a critical role in the overall success of a resort water park, serving both operational and guest experience needs. At Grand Hyatt Dubai, the wave pool acts as a natural capacity absorber, comfortably accommodating large numbers of guests while creating a relaxed, social environment. It becomes an intuitive meeting place for families, allowing older children the freedom to explore the park independently while remaining within a compact, clearly visible, and secure setting.
Surrounding the wave pool, the sandy beach invites guests to linger, watch the action, and reconnect between rides, while the Wave River loops around the park to gently guide guests from one attraction zone to another. Together, these elements anchor the park experience, balancing energy with downtime and reinforcing the water park as a place to gather, relax, and return throughout the day.
The debut of the FlowRider® Triple also marks a major milestone for the region, bringing the Middle East its first stationary surf experience wide enough to host three riders at once. Guests of all skill levels can ride simultaneously, cheer each other on, and progress together, turning the attraction into a passive capacity point within the park helping to entertain guests as they make their way through the park. Beyond performance, the triple configuration allows the resort to serve a broader audience, from first-time riders to confident surfers, while maintaining smooth operations and consistent throughput.

The kids’ area is designed to deliver just as much excitement as the park’s larger attractions. At the heart of the zone, the AquaPlay 1050 multi-level play structure brings the space to life with four water slides, 95 interactive play features, and a 1,200-liter (318-gallon) tipping bucket that creates a shared moment of anticipation and excitement. Combined with a splash pad covered in AquaSplash interactive toys, this area encourages active play, discovery, and social interaction, ensuring younger guests stay engaged while families enjoy a vibrant, well-designed space that makes the water park a true multigenerational destination.
